In a move that did not surprise anyone familiar with the league, today in its annual summer meeting the C-USA Board of the Directors approved a bid to have the Conference USA Basketball Tournament return to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2013.
Tulsa hosted the tournament in 2010.
The original destination appeared to be Memphis, but when the Tigers left for the Big East (along with several other C-USA teams) the remaining institutions found it necessary to make a change. The meeting also resulted in approval for a 2014 bid to have the tournament in El Paso, TX once again, locking in the next two tournament locales.
This meeting was also an opportunity to welcome in the brand-new schools joining the conference in 2013. Tulane president Dr. Scott Cowen (Chair of the Board of Directors) said, “We had a very productive meeting with a high level of cooperation. We appreciated the contributions from the Presidents and Chancellors of our new members.”
The Board of Directors will meet again in October of this year to further discuss other issues including the transition of the new teams into the conference and further expansion possibilities.
